Jefferson Fisher, The Diary of a CEO
The 3-Step Disrespect Protocol
Hold five to seven seconds of silence, make them repeat the insult, and answer any repeat with a flat thank you instead of a counterattack.
Jefferson Fisher says
When someone insults me, I start with silence, five to seven seconds of nothing, before I respond. Then I ask them to say it again, because a lot of the time people take it back once they hear themselves asked to repeat it. If they double down instead of walking it back, all I do is thank them and leave it there.
Try this
Stay silent, ask them to repeat the insult, then simply thank them if they double down.
