Match Your Variables To The Adaptation You Want

Galpin opens with a law that cuts through most exercise confusion: the exercise you choose does not determine the adaptation you get. The application does. You can do a bench press and get strength, hypertrophy, or muscular endurance depending entirely on the load, rep range, rest interval, and intent. If those variables are wrong for your goal, you will not get the adaptation you are chasing, regardless of which exercise you picked. This reframes the entire way to plan a session. Before choosing an exercise, decide which of the nine adaptation categories you are targeting: skill, speed, power, strength, hypertrophy, muscular endurance, anaerobic power, VO2 max, or long-duration endurance.
